Preparing Polish students to active participating in European labour market

The main aim of this project accordant to the program goal was to improve the skills and competencies of people, especially young people,

in initial vocational training at all levels. Within the framework limits of the main aim of the project the particular aims were implemented:

• Preparing the students to active participate in European Labour market through placement in European companies.

Improving the language and interpersonal skills.

Acquiring skills and experiences allowing to plan oneself vocational career and to increase chances for recruitment.

The most important problem of post graduates is lack of work experience. Polish high education system does not prepare students to work. On the other hand, employers during recruitment process hire persons with work experience and language competences.

International cooperation

According to the Copenhagen Declaration it is very important that countries that have joint the European Union participate in international co-operation in field of education and trainings. However, to actively take part in creation a vision of knowledge-orientated Europe, there is a need to prepare students and teach them to be ready to participate in European Labour.

The University of Danzig, taking into consideration the situation on labour market and using experiences from realization of previous projects, assisted a next group of students, especially in getting a professional experience. The European Labour market seems to be a chance for our students. Also European cooperation and partnership provides new possibilities. The beneficiaries of the project were 6 students from 7th to 9th semester from such specialization as: German philology, English philology, Philology (Scandinavian studies), Management and marketing (especially from Department of Information Systems) and Biotechnology.

Participating in work practices in European countries improved student’s language skills and also prepared them to work after graduating studies. Beneficiaries worked in companies or laboratories in Ireland, Portugal and Germany. In Berlin theoretical knowledge was use in practice students from German philology. To Dublinwent students from English and Scandinavian studies also biotechnologists who learnt a practical use of knowledge and research which they have studied. However to Lisbon for training went students from management and marketing.
