International Youth Seminar about the European identity and integration
(2nd August- 12th August 2007 in Berlin, Germany)

Youth exchange about the European identity and integration

During the first two week of August took place in Berlin a youth exchange between Poland, Spain, Slovaquia and Germany. About eight youngsters from each of these countries arrived to the German capital in order to participate in a meeting that had as a main objective to bring nearer both parts of Europe (West and East), which seem to be still separated by a psychological wall, that disappeared physically almost 20 years ago.

The idea of the exchange was to make the participants understand that is possible to create an identity above the boundaries of their own countries. If the discussion about the national feeling takes place out of the country of the participants, all of them are somehow migrants. The workshops were a way of reflection of this discussion: during them, there were also discussions about the concept of Europe and nationalities, and the conditions of life of the young people in there different national realities in Europe.

Furthermore, the exchange, which was organized in the Fuchsbau youth club by Trapez with the collaboration of GEB, offered the participants a complete cultural programme about the German history, social and political life of the country. The opinion of Víctor, one of the Spanish participant, reflects quite clearly the results of the exchange: “All the experiences we lived enriched our view about the cultures and countries which took part and about ourselves”.
